This ball was among a group of similar trophy balls recently discovered in an estate, and the provenance of the ball as told to me was that it was obtained by a Phillies Connie Mack Stadium bat boy.  The batboy would save foul balls that were returned to the dugout, note the batter, and later paint the balls with the batter's team colors and game info.
The ball is beautifully painted with Pirates Black, Yellow, and gray, and features some aging and

raquelure
to the paint.
The ball was fouled off by the Pirates left fielder on September 24, 1961.
Skinner would go 2 for 4 in this game with a run and an rbi.
A fantastic looking piece of Pirates history.
